Sarah's First Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!!!

What a great day it is too. I have to say, I love my mother so much. I couldn't imagine life without her. Today is a day to celebrate our mother's for all the love they give us. I'm so thankful to have the one I do.

Equally noteworthy, today was Sarah's first Mother's Day! We had a great day...so far. Her parents came over for the weekend because it was also Celie's dedication (those of the non-Baptist background may refer to this as christening or baptism. We call it Dedication. There is no water involved as we do not believe a child can make a decision to accept Christ - that's the short of it - so we have a similar ceremony where the pastor prays for the children and for the parents and asks God's blessing and wisdom on them as they raise their child).

I won't charge you one penny for that theological explanation.

So anyway, my in-laws were here. I gave Sarah a pretty darn nice gift. May kinda kills me because it contains: Sarah's Birthday, Sarah's first Mother's Day and our Anniversary. YIKES! Her watch battery died last week so I took the lead in buying her a new watch. I wrapped all three occasion's gifts into one, against many people poo-pooing that idea. Nonetheless, she loves her watch - and it is gorgeous I might say. For all wondering, of course I gave her a nice card from me, her husband, and one from Celie (who of course, can't write or even complete sentence or even remember anything past her last poop, but it was the right thing to do and I loved it.)

*****SIDENOTE*****Many of you don't know this but I am a watch-aholic. Seriously. I have an insane and unhealthy addiction to really nice watches - not good. So, as you can see, I'm trying to infect Sarah with this disease. She's never been into watches and has always been just fine with her $50 Fossil watch. I'm not knocking it.....I understand....many people aren't into them. Some people think that $3,500 for a watch is ENTIRELY too much (not that I paid that much for Sarah's, this is just an example). Depending on the watch, I don't think that's so bad. I just love them. I do not buy expensive cars, X-boxes, guns, stuff to "soup-up" our cars (which is a Honda Pilot or VW Beetle convertible so "souping" those up would be utterly ridiculous)computer stuff, electronics, etc. I buy watches. Not like I have a dozen, because with a higher price tag comes a limited collection of them for me. I'm just of the opinion that once you're an adult and in the working world, you need to have a nice watch. For some that's a Fossil. For other's (like me) it's a Baume & Mercier. So there, I've confessed.

Back on track........Sarah loves her watch and that makes me very happy. Although she'll probably never buy another one (or really need another one after this one), I've given her something she loves and that makes me happy. For those of you superficial enough to care, I bought her a Tag Heuer Aquaracer with diamonds!!! DELICIOUS.

So we dedicated Celie this morning which was very special. My parents and one grandmother were there along with Sarah's peeps. Let me just take a minute to tell you how insanely cute and advanced my daughter is. I'm not saying she's a MENSA candidate, but wow....I mean, you should have seen her on stage. She clearly knows that's where she belongs, much like her daddy. She was very at home up there with me...looking around like a little nosey church lady. I LOVED IT. Not to mention she looked absolutely adorable. I'll try to post some pictures from the ceremony.

After church we all went out to eat as a family and my cousin, her daughter and my other grandmother joined us. Lunch was either Prime Rib or Chicken Cordon Bleu. Very hard decision for me. I haven't had a prime rib in years....probably at a Steak and Ale. Ever since I learned that it is almost the most horrible cut of meat for you, I've slacked off.....you wouldn't know this from looking at me, but whatevs. So that's what I had. It was really good.

After that we all came home. My mother obviously went to CVS to develop her photos from this morning. She's very well know at the CVS photo counter and she brought them over for us. Sarah's parents took some cat-naps and I did yard work. Let me define yard work: I watered and fertilized all our plant beds and grass....that's it. Although I did do quite a bit of yard work on Saturday.

Sarah's parents left a little bit ago and we're hanging out. I am heading off to church in a few minutes and then have a Church Council meeting which I'm SURE will be exciting.

"In closing" (as all pastors would say) to all you mother's reading this: Happy Mother's Day! Someone at work gave me the greatest quote on Friday before leaving. Hoping I quote it correctly, I'll leave you with it.....

Making the decision to have a child is making the decision to forever live your life with your heart outside your body.
